European DX-Contest CW 2007

Contest Echo

2E0CVN: Not alot of activity very slow at times, where were some of the big guns such as KC1XX, K1LZ, ZL6QH, JH4UYB?

4O3A: It was a repeat of year 2005: bad conds and lots of QRN! Hope 2008 will bring an improvement. Congrats to the other top scores that keep the challenge interesting year after year! Tnx to Ranko as well for hosting!

4U1VIC: Just a short operation to test new location. Certainly we are back on the air !!

9A/S53AU/P: QRV from Bokinic village on the south of the Cres island, IOTA EU-136, IOCA CI-012, JN74GO, just for a few moments before leaving the island.

9A5Y: Softweare problems including often automatic switch to 20m when receiving QTC. When go to work 152 QSO program started count from 139. No dx cluster use. IC-756PROII + PRO67B + Inverted Vee for 80m

9M6XRO: Rig: Yaesu FT-1000MP & Quadra Linear running 400 watts output Ant: 2el Cubical Quad & Butternut HF2V Vertical both up approx 27m I made a late start and found the band condx rather poor on Saturday but they were reasonably good on Sunday and I even managed a few contacts on 10m. I updated my N1MM Logger program ahead of the Contest but another upgrade was released just after I did that. The result was that I had a problem logging Montenegro, YT3A and 4O3A! Later when I sent a QTC it skipped those QSOs. The moral - update your Contest Program on the day of the Contest!

A45WD: Limited time efort this year, but still enjoying the old WAE contest. See you next month in WAE SSB.

A45WG: Good fun, and at times good conditions. Unassisted.

AF4OX: FIRST TIME for WAE. QTC MAKES THIS CONTEST INTERESTING I HAD TASKS, SO CONTEST TIME WAS VERY LIMITED. WILL TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR WITH BETTER PREPARATION.

CU2JT: Another year with poor propagation which also seems to affect the participation. I debated with myself whether I should send a check log or a competition log. I was expecting CU3F to be in the contest but apparently they were not. Anyway, glad to give the guys a multiplier and the contest format is very exciting with the QTC exchanges. Also nice to work at least one station on 10 meters. The band was probably better than expected but you can never tell if there is no activity. Looking forward to the WAE RTTY contest later this year.

DA0CB: poor conditions on high bands, vy hard job this year - hi, hpe it would better in next year

DE0MBS: In memory of our friend Sigi, DL3AMA, SK two days after WAE.

DF1HE: cu agn next year 73 de DF1HE Heiko

DJ1AA: My first WAE-CW Contest, just for fun and to get a little bit more know how. With 100 W it was not really easy and have to wait a long time for some QSOs, sometimes the QTC traffic made the S+P operation very slow. Not my kind of contest..

DJ2AX: Angebot war gut, hat viel Spass gemacht! Peter DJ2AX

DJ3GE: No DX-Cluster used

DJ3WE: Kind of tough contest in the minimum of the sun spot cycle! Hardly anything on 15 and 10. Partly vy weak sigs from the US on 20. 40 was ok, 80 was a challenge due to vy high level of QRN. The QTC-traffic really separates the boys from the men. Some stns did an excellent job in adjusting to your own speed, others just couldn't care less. I think. in the long run we have to do something to "punish" the sending stn to some extent if the receiving stn did not correctly copy a QTC. That would stur some interest on the side of the sending stn to make sure that the receiving stn correctly understood the message. Anyhow: Great contest for adults....

DJ4KW: Single OP All Band CW Only High Power

DJ6TK: It was only a short Test for me, had some visitors in my house

73! Peter

DK0OD: Condxs vy bad - RIG and WinTest Software ufb - OPs did their vy best - We will try harder next year! 73

DK7HA: non-assisted - DOK: E02 IC-703, 5 watt out, GPA-30, 10m vertical for 40m - condx vy poor! In 2004 I had nearly the same amount of qsos in 8 hours than this time over the full period! With qrp it was even difficult to catch qtc because stn hardly recognize if you ask to repeat. At least the vertical for 40m, set up last minute, was working fine. Thank you for the contest. two dups: nr4m, vy2mt; and several qtc not complete.

DK9BW: -

DK9HE: my first IARU-HF contest vy nice, will return next

DK9PY: The conditions were bad again this year. However, thanks to all those stations who were able to sent me QTC's. This is the best part of the contest and really enjoyed it. Too bad that there was no 10m opening to the US. CU again in 2008! 73, Armin DK9PY

DL0KB: Sehr kleine Beteiligung, ggf als Checklog verwenden

DL1CW: 10/15 far worse the 2006, more QTC's more multies Congrats to Mike (DL4SM) who made a super job from Tanzania as 5H3EE!

Hatte leider keine Zeit. Bedingungen extrem im Keller.

DL3KWF: Die Funkwettervorhersage hat leider gestimmt. D

L4AAE: QTC traffic compensates for poor condx, doesn't it?

DL4JU: WAEDC is the best, thanks for it. See you again next year by better condx(?)!

DL7UMK: Nice contest again but I missed lot of DXCC from last year. 10m was almost dead. The QTC count was nice this year, doubled from last year.See you next year! vy 73 de Manfred DL7UMK

DM1A: Thanks to all DX stations for making this a fun event - despite ZERO sunspots.

DM3W: typical condx for the sunspotminimum... the same fight like 2005 strong qrn on the low bands, heard more stations using beverage as i could reach, nice opening to north america on 20m sunday night but weak sigs... tnx for the exercised patience. cu next year

EA8MQ: VERY NICE CONTEST WIHS ENTRETAINE QTC I EM WORKING AND SENDING ALL QTC THANK TO ALL OM I HOPE TO NEXT CONTEST

G0MTN: Just playing with 100w and a windom. Quite tough going. Congrats to those that operated the full 36 / 48.

G4WGE: So there are load of EU stations calling the DX station when someone sends 'QTC?'. All I hear is a meaningless string of callsigns as the DX station fades back into the noise. I hate QTC's!

GM3YTS: Enjoyed my first WAE contest I will spend more time next when I hope there will be better conditions.

GM4UBJ: Working the two days so could only operate during my free time, however I enjoyed my limited time operating and I will use QTCs next time...now lets get that tower built

GW0ETF: First serious attempt and very enjoyable. Conditions poor FT990 and 100 watts to a 33m doublet 11m high

HG1S: In this year was problem with the computers and propagation. Our congratulations to the german guys, they are always the best in WAEDC.

I2WIJ: Very loosy conditions, and not enough time to a serious effort. I had fun anyway with QTCs! CU next one. Bob, I2WIJ

JA1BPA: Part-time effort. The propagtion on 10 and 15mb was hopeless.

JA3YBK: Last year, We couldn't QSO any Eu on 10m. But, We could work a QSO on 10m this year. Very happy!

JH3PRR: The WAEDC CW is the most enjoyable contest in summer time from my station http://jh3prr.com located on the north side of the ridge. Unfortunately something was wrong with my 80m vertical and I missed lots of 4x multipliers on 80m. Also I had terrible OTH radar Dragon on 40m on the second day. Thank you for your patience and see you again in 2008!

K2MFY: Fun contest...wish conditions were better!

K4IU: Poor conditions in Minnesota USA. But still one of the best contests. Thanks DARC

K5ZD/1: No packet. Operated to earn qualifying points for WRTC 2010.

K6XX: Conditions miserable!

K9GY: Condx not so good from IL to Europe this year. Last hour stns were good though.

LN8W: This is the worst WAEDC contest I can remember. In addition to very poor conds we had very strong aurora activity in the norther Europe. It is really not fair to compete in such conditions. I gave up early on sunday morning. I hope for better conds next year. It could only get better after this!

LX7I: Worst CONDX ever.

N4PN: CONDX VERY BAD...THANKS TO THE FAITHFUL FOR SHOWING UP AND MAKING THE TEST. ONLY ONE CONTACT ON 10M..DR1A. 15M OPENED FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. NICE TO HAVE R1FJT CALL ME AT THE END OF CONTEST. ALSO, OJ0B FOR CALLING LATE.

N6TV: I tried to work all of Europe, but from California I could only manage to work *some* of Europe. This is a very difficult contest to work from W6-land when there are no sunspots, but using Win-Test made it fun nevertheless.

NG7Z: First time in this contest. Glad I gave it a try. Good workout for my new beam antenna. Wouldn't have worked nearly as many as I did. But condx were not so good on Saturday to Europe. Only worked a few. Sunday was much better and was able to work more. Will try the RTTY portion but not the phone portion unless condx are much better. Just too hard to work EU on phone with 100W and lousy propagation.

OJ0B: SORRY, STORMY WEATHER DELAYED LANDING AND ANTENNA BUILDING.

OL8M: Very local QRM - problem with receive

Also meistens nach andere Stationen suchen. 73 Leon ON5WL

OX/OZ7BQ: Operated from OX3NUK, Nuuk Greenland. With no sunspots and a K-index around 5 it was hard to work Europe on 20 M. Except for a few Norwegian stations I did not hear any N- Eu stations. 40 M never opened, and around 2120 UTC Saturday I had to close down.

PA0FAW: Sd worked fb again for logging If there had not been that qtc-nonsense I would have more qso's. Qtc's is funfor big guns but a nuisance for the small stations

PJ2G: G3TXF operated as PJ2G from the CCC PJ2T station on Curacao. Although the station has a tall 33m tower with large monoband antennas fixed on Europe, the topography of the location (eg there is a 30m high rock face only 80m from the antenna tower!) made it hard to be heard in Europe with a good signal. The SFI of 68 did not help either. The only station heard (very weakly) on 10m was RW1AC. It was a change for me to be a sender (rather than a recipient) of QTCs. With the excellent Win-Test software, sending the QTCs is remarkably easy and user friendly. However the true 'operator satisfaction' is not in sending QTCs, but in receiving them! It was an interesting experience doing the WAE-CW Contest for the first time from outside Europe.

S57DX: BAD CONDITIONS BUT NICE CONTEST! I LIKE WAEDC VERY MUCH.

VU2UR: HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY WALL PAPER FOR MY LAST PARTICIPATION.

VY2MT: I really enjoyed doing this contest with VY2MT instead of VY2/KD4D! There was a big windstorm Thursday morning which took out the 80-meter four square and turned the 40 meter yagi due north. There was no time to make repairs. I had fun anyway but wasn't competitive on 40 or 80.

VY2ZM: CONDX PRETTY POOR WITH 15M WELL DOWN FROM PAST YEARS. NICE TO WORK A FEW ON 10M THOUGH. CU IN THE NEXT ONE!

YB0DPO: I only had a limited time to operate with other family obligations.the propagation was poor then last year, missed good tike on 80m and 40m, anyway lots of fun always, thank's for the QSO, hope cu agn next contest 73

ZS6AA: Had a good go despite family committments which kept me away on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. My first WAEDC, and most enjoyable it was. QTCs certainly add to the fun - especially since it's the EU ops who have to copy them, while us DX ops can relax and let the software do the work! I worked SO1R since my second radio seems to have a sensitivity problem - I suspect I've fried a preamp transistor or something :) Conditions were surprisingly good on 15m, although the propagation came and went in waves - one moment I'd have a pileup, the next be on my own. I even managed a few on 10m around 1000Z on Sunday thanks to UU5A who convinced me to give it a try and then spotted me there - grateful thanks to the Crimean Contest Club operator! 20m was also working well although closed quite early on both days. I had poor results on 40m, probably due to my relatively poor antenna on this band, as well as QRM in EU. Especially on Sunday morning, when I sat for 2 hours from 2am to 4am local time for only 10 QSOs. Grrrr. It was a real pleasure to work with so many very competant ops - it was great to witness the skill with which the EU stations copied my QTCs. I'll have to try this contest from EU some day. Thanks to the organisers and all the contestants for making this a fun event. 73 and CU in CQWW CW and again in EUDC next year. Radio: Kenwood TS-850S Antennas: F12 C-31XR at 18m, 40m dipole Software: WriteLog for Windows
