European DX-Contest CW 2005
Contest Echo
4S7NI: In these difficult times, 20 m band was fully open for 2 hours allowing me to contact 10 stations feeding a dipole with 60 W
AE6NY: Lots of fun! Contest was slow until 1500Z on Saturday. After that, the rate really picked up! A big thank you to my family for helping me put up my beam. Great contest!
CT7T: Very bad conditios with some openings. not full time operation... cu in SSB part!
CX7BY: I had few time free for the test. Enjoy this contest !
DD1IM: Hi all, pse consider me for the following category: single op, cw, low power, non-assisted. Loving hispeed-cw I've noticed a lower average keying speed compared with 2k4, hmm. This yr I'd a bit more time to operate, so I achieved a btr score & enjoyed mni contacts. But was frustrated some stns didn't hear my low-powered "qtc?" Mni tnx 2 K5MA for his patience during a hot qtc lookup... Tnx also for your work and the contest - hpe participate agn. Vy 73, gl es cwfe de Sascha
DG2NDO: Very interested contest to work quick new countries, but it is very hard for newcomer with this high speed CW operation. Sometimes no discipline, always hacking between QSO/QTC traffic. Some OP working like an ax in the wood. Often, it comes no QRS reaction.
DJ6TK: It was very hard to work with my simple 10m Vertical for all bands against the big guns
DK0SC: For our opinion, the WAEDC is the king of Contests. But to survive, you must be an Imperator! Were is the HAM-Spirit gone? High speed QTC traffic.QRS often ignored. We hope (the normal speeders) CW war is over next year!
DK1QO: What shall we do with the minimum... Bad condx agn
DK4WF: Vy poor condx on 10 meters! Best signals from A61AJ... I worked A61AJ on all five bands.
DL0BO/P: Thanks to the support team DK4DC,DL9UN,DL3DAZ,DB1DJ,DO6HP and yl Steffi,DK7DV,DO9WM
DL1NME: I am a newcomer. I have good training in CW, but this contest is often cruel! It is very interested to work new countries, but it is very hard. Often no reaction to QRS! In the future, I hope there is more ham spirit in the air!
DL1NSG: I am not really interested in contesting. This time I used this event for training our contest team. Discipline often was bad. Lots of highspeed CW QSOs and QTC traffic; ORS requets were for nothing; hard to motivate newcomers. Some say this was my first and last contest.
DL2OBO: I think my first CW entry in WAE. condx lousy. So I wasn't too unhappy that I had to work in our Hotel this weekend. QTC is funn but why is temp 35 BPM the minimum speed. yet no recorder for QTCs installed for offline logging. cu next WAE CW.
Habe viele gute Bekannte getroffen. awdh 2006 in CW.
DL5KM/P: erstmalige Teilnahme, froh ueber meinen Erfolg auf 7MHz.
DL5NO: Meine erster WAE nach vielen Jahren Pause. Eine zähe Angelegenheit auf den höheren Bändern.
DL5RBR: ""
DL7ON: A qtc with 36/40wpm or more is very hard, those dx-operators may come next year to the eu-side and write himself some qtc in the keyboard. Sometimes less is more.
DL7UMK: It was nice but the upper bands were almost dead. See you next year Vy 73 from Manfred DL7UMK
DL7VRG: Sorry, werde im naechsten Jahr wieder laenger mitmachen !
DM1A: The DM1A team thanks all DX stations for sending QTCs!
DM3B: Schlechte conds!
DP7A: condx did not really amuse me, but had a real lot of fun, many thanks to the station-owner for using his nice qth !
DQ4T: An effort with fairly limited resources from DM1TT home stn, it was good fun nevertheless. The co-operation of the operator and software definetely still needs some more practising. Thanks to DL4FAA for helping with the antennas and to DK9VZ for lending the amp.
AWDH 2006 E21EIC: Thanks to all QSOs.
EA1CS: Sorry but have many problems with the software for write the QTC´s. Maybe the next year will be better. EA4DUT: A GOOD CHANCE TO INCREASE MY DXCC ON CW! CONGRATULATIONS TO WINNERS AND TNX TO ORGANIZATION
EA5ARC: had heavy QRN during contest but enjoyed the contest
EA8ASJ: Very good interesting aid there Am QTC, until next QSO
F6KAR: Nice start and nice end of the contest. When there was no opening to NA, veeeery boring. We tried as much as possible to hunt multis that especially on Sunday became very scarce leading to enormous pileups. Same story with US stations the last hours! Thanks to all stations (especially the casual callers) that called us, apologies to those we missed. Will agree with Patrick's F6IRF comments: WAEDC-RTTY rules minimize yawning during low-sunspot years :-) 73's Nick F5VIH/SV3SJ and Phil F6IFY
G0MTN: Just playing this year....
G3KKQ: Hard going due to poor conditions Nevertheless enjoyable in meeting many familiar calls Only 5 hours worked, all during daylight. 21MHz came back to life Sunday evening
G3LHJ: Condx pretty awful but good for the ears digging out weak signals hi. enjoyed it though see u next year.
G3RSD: This is a Contest which tests your skill at reading Qtc's at speed under QSB condx Most Enjoyable
G4DBW: Elecraft K2 5 watts output QRP Very difficult contest with QRP
HA2MN/5: RIG TS-530SP 100W OUT TO A WHIP H
A5LQ: CONTROLL
HB9AYZ: VERY POOR CONDITIONS
HP1/N4GG: Sorry I could not give more QSOs from Panama - other commitments.
I2AZ: Sorry this year a bad WAE Contest especially on the higher bands. I begin to think to bee stupid to sit so many hours and to make so few QSO........
I2WIJ: Unfortunately, due to other committments, not a serious effort. Cu next year
IK2AIT/IV3: There was a propagation black hole where I was. The few stations heard, 34, were contacted. Better to spend time looking at bikinis. Original Cabrillo score wrong. Next time QTCs. Fine Test
IN3QBR: Too many tunderstorms, electricity fault, QRN,the bands were too noisie, an hard contest, will be better the next.
IS0IGV: Very good contest - propagation negative on 10 meters. At next time!
IZ2GMT: NICE CONTEST!!! 73 TO EVERYBODY
JA1BJI: It seemed high band condition was not so good. However, I enjoyed many QSO with EU stations on 40m.
JA1BPA: Part-time effort this year. The propagtion on 10 and 15mb was hopeless. The next few years will be really hard for someone like me who lives in a small property in the middle of a big city!
JA2BQX: Tnx nice contest
JG7PSJ: I enjoyed 40m operations. Thanks for all QSOs in the contest.
JJ3TBB: I did not use DX spotting nets while this contest. Though I operated only 4 hours, I enjoyed QSOs and QTCs.
JO7KMB: Rest period 0000-1200 Rest period 1400-1800 Rest period 2100-0800 Spotting net was not used It was hard to QSO in QSB and QRNN condx. I wanted to work Eu stations on 40m band but I had no good antenna. Enjoyed to exchange QTCs. J
R4GPA: Band closed much earlier than last year but I enjyoed very much. Thank you.
K1BV: Even with poor conditions, a very good contest. Interesting new German prefixes.
K2MFY: First time I tried WAE contest with logging program (WriteLog). Certainly made logging and QTC exchanges easier than pencil copy. Now I have to implement program to send CW!
K2ZR: IC-765 @ 100W - CF Wire & End Fed Wire Antennas. Conditions were not very good in Niagara County, New York. Had lots of fun in the few hours I operated.
K4YKZ: Please excuse all the repeat requests this year. We experienced thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday evenings here in western North Carolina. QRN+++ K
5ZD: Fun to work the new German club calls! I did not use packet. I am W1 call area, but did not send /1 during contest.
K8AJS: I planned a good effort in the contest this year, after last year's effort with just wire antennas after my recent move. Instead, Mother Nature stepped in. At 2215Z on the first day, I shut the station down because much thunder and lighning was approaching. A severe storm with high winds struck, and I watched as two 60-foot pine trees blew down in the park behind my house, taking down the power lines and leaving me without any electricity. Seventeen hours later, my power came back on, after the power company worked most of the night cleaning up the fallen trees and limbs and reconnecting the power lines on the poles. I spent most of Sunday cleaning limbs out of my yard. The contest was over for me. Oh, well, better luck next year.
KE1F: Difficult conditions. QSB and QRN in Florida. Sometimes no EU station on the band. No 15 or 10 meter propagation.
KJ9C: Propagation really stunk from the Black Hole until late Sunday. Then it was too late.
LA/DL6MHW: First day of WAE was our last day in Norway.
LX/DL1EKC/P: Operating with fieldday-style setup 500m ASL, consisting of Elecraft K2, 100 W, Spiderbeam 15m up and some dipoles. Have to improve my 80 m ant, the sloper was just useless. CONDX were really bad this time and WX was bad either. A big PA to heat my tent would have been great :-) Hope to see You all next year agn.
LZ1-H-192: 73 for all contest operators and good luck!
M0MYC: One thing learnt for next year, Remeber the Tape recoder! QTC's were quite difficult here much QRM, QSB making cpying vry difficult, Thank god for the USA! If not for them our score would be atleast half of what it is, Thanks Guys. C u all in CQWW!!
MU0FAL: Poor Condx. N1NN: 1st WAEDC Contest
N3CA: Fun for the limited time I did it - only on for two hours. Very fun.
N3RD: Disappointing conditions on 15 and 10m this year. We will have to persevere until El Sol shines favorably again. However, poor conditions do not really diminish our enjoyment of this contest. The QTCs add interest, and the challenge of getting the serial numbers correct on the all important low bands adds a different dimension. We always test out new antennas in WAE, and this year was no different. Completely rebuilt 3-stacks on 20 and 15m were given trials, as was the rotary dipole on 80m. All passed with flying colors. What can we change for next year? We'll have to wait and see! N4AF: Some problems with N1MM-esp logging lx/dl1ekc/p. Had to log him as lx/dl1ekc
N4MM: Very little time to get on - busy weekend.
N4PN: THANKS TO THE GREAT CW OPS IN EUROPE...THEY MADE UP FOR THE BAD CONDX. WITHOUT 20 METERS WOULD HAVE BEEN A LONG WEEKEND. THE FORMAT FOR DARC WAEDC IS GREAT. WHEN THINGS ARE SLOW THE QTC's REALLY KEEP THINGS GOING. LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR. N5AW: NOT THE BEST OF CONDITIONS - LESS THAN HALF AS MANY CONTACTS AS MADE IN 2004.
N8II: SEE 3830. It was a tough contest. Conditions poor and actvity was low.
NN3W: Very part time effort from home of N3HBX
OH0/DJ7ST: Contesting open air on the veranda under a blue scandinavian sky is a pleasure. But during the night some QTC-notes have gone with the wind, vy sri!
OH2K: Thanks everybody who worked us and special thanks to organisators for this very enjoyable contest. Our 1st try in cw mode did not gave the result that we hoped before test, but indeed had lots of fun. QTC traffic is worth of practising before next years cw part. CU all then agn. And don't forgot SSB and RTTY parts. 73 de OH2LNH & OH2LRE
OK2-9329: Very good Contest and perfect DX and EU operators. See you again in WAE SSB and WAE RTTY contests friends.
OK2SWD: VERY GOOD CONTEST AS USUALLY. MY AGE 67. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR FRIENDS
OM2VL: Thanks for the nice contest. I am taking part in the HP category, but on 80m I had only 100W. I wkd with 23 DXCC on 80m and heard some others, but the pileups was big. On 10m I haven't ant. Theese 9 QSO made with a 80m 2el Yagi, hi... Thanks everyone for the QSOs. See you in 2006!
ON4CAS: Sunspots where have you gone ?
ON4KVA: NO GOOD PROPAGATION. MNY DIFFICULT FOR COPY ! BEST 73's ON ALL THE AR IN THE WORLD. ONE DUPE N° 40 (EX9A) I USE THE LOG FROM EI5DI A GOOD LOG.
ON5WL: Poor conditions especially on 10 and 15 meter Till next year. I used SD for post contest log make up. ONL383: Very difficult condx this year with poor propagation and high QRN on the LF bands but nevertheless it is always a pleasure to listen in WAEDC contests!
OZ/DL6MHW: After crossing the north sea from LA some QSO in the evening.
OZ7BQ: Not a good idea to try 80 M with QRP and a poor antenna. Will make a better antenna next year.
P40QX: Had fun contesting from ARUBA
PA0LRK: Pleased to make some contacts again. 21 MHz was poor so I was happy to make 35 QSOs on 14 MHz.
PA0RRS: only limited time available
PY2NY: Five QSO first night. First time all band spotted for a long time!! Thanks everybody !! See you next year.
PY7OJ: TKS FB TEST.
RA3XO: 285 QSOs + 627 QTCs Never used spotting. Last years use pure radio without computer. WAEDC is my favorite contest. Thanks & 73. Sorry, used old N6TR software in postcontest mode. So some problems with claimed score. And, sorry, have sent nr.275 twice.
RK9CWW:An unexpected station record was set - 41 mults on 80, which was impossible in the last 30+ years of participation in WAE with better antennas and more operators. Thanks to all for the points, see you on the bands. We love this contest.
RN9XA: Thanks for contest. Operated only 21 hours. Best wishes!
RU2FM: trx 5 w ant dipole, delta
RV3DBK: QRP 2 Watts, ant: magnetic loop (indoor)
RW1AC: I had no AC power after strong wind in our area 3 days before the contest. I used two generators for operating about 17 hours, one was for SO2R different bands another one for 2 FT1000MP, 2 computers and some more. It was not easy because I had to reconnect many wires in shack. When the contest started the second generator for shack broke down, becouse my start was one hour later. I had only 100 watts for the second band. 40 mtrs was really good, but signals from W6/W7 were very weak. 80 mtrs band like at last year was good opening in first night. I had short time for 80 /40 mtrs in morning and next band was 20 mtrs with very poor condx for NA but loud As Russian gave QSO’s and QTC’s. 15 mtrs slowly opened for UA9-0 and a several weak JA. Later UA9A,C stations went to 10 mtrs and had signal 59 plus. I decided to make a break. I needed to buy a gasoline for generators and to repair my second generator so I had enough time for rest. I spent about 2 hours when finished the work. When I started again 20 mtrs was quite good opening for NA and JA stations, who often gave me QTC. Short opened on 15 mtrs for USA , I made few qso W1-4,9 and didn’t pay attention it. I think it was my error because I had never heard any station from USA on the second day. The second night on 80 mtrs was not good as first. 40 mtrs was suprised few multiplers from SA, after 03 gmt suddenlly all NA stations disappeared on the bands. I was exsoted very much and went to bed. Last 12 hours conditions in general a pleasant surprise, really a lot more fun than I expected. 20 mtrs was good open for USA and signals became on 15 mtrs from SA. It was my first expereince in WAE CW as SOAB CW HP, I was really satisfied with the result. A very fun contest as always. Thanks to everyone for QSO's and QTC's.
RX9TL: Hi, nice contest, but I had to work only few hours. I'd like to participate next year! RZ4AG: Great contest! Thanks to ua2fz for my point of view change! I hated WAEDC only 3 years ago because it has QTC. But I love it now because it has QTC! (hi)
S56A: MY COOLEST WAE EVER WITH TEMP AROUND 15 DEG C. 48 HOURS TOO MUCH.
S58A: To many crashes for beter result.
SM0P: If I only have read the contest rules. It took me 3/4 of the Contest to realize that there is no single band category. I was opting for 20 meter as I only have a decent antenna for 10/15/20 meters. Hopefully, next year, I will be better prepared and have a better antenna for 40 & 80 meters and work more stations on those bands....
SP3DOF: TS 870 S 100 W Ant Yagi 4 el multiband
SP6BEN: IC-735 ANT.GP
SP9EMI: TRX: IC738 100W Ant: Quad 84m SQ1EUG: Very nice contest ,but a pity that condx was a very poor !! See you next year !! Jaco
UA0AWA: Tnx all fer Test, 73 de Vlad UA0AWA
UA9CBO: A short - less than 10 hours operation to help UCG. No clusters. No computers. Use your own rain/memory. Hi! UA9CDC: Lost incentive to continue 3 hours before the end of the contest when I learnt that Nick UN4L is also in LP cathegory and ahead of me by 200+ QSO . Well it confirms that it is difficult to beat full size 40m 3el and stacks for 15 and 10 with just spiderbeam 9 meters above the ground. Anyway I got pretty close to my own result of 2003 which is so far my personal best in LP in WAE. See you next year. Great to have WAE recovering.
UN7FW: Excuse me for same log. I hope to work with computer next WAE and my results will be better! 73 es thanks for interesting test.
VA3RKM: 5W QRP WITH DIPOLE VE3GSI: First time entry. This is a fun contest.
VE3OSZ: spotting nets not used
VE3RCN: The computer crashed and I had to do a recovery. Something is wrong in the log. First time at this contest, I must learn about QTC.
VE7NI: Short opening to Europe when I had a few minutes on the air. Nice to hear some signals from Europe! VO1AAM: Lost 2nd Tribander at the beginning of the Contest. VO1AU replaced it on Sunday morning. Thanks to Dave VO1AU and his family for hospitality. I had fun on 80m Marconi was smart to select Newfoundland for his 1st Transatlantic QSO. :-
VP9/N0ED: I like this contest very much. It is my favourite. But I think it is too long - 24h is enough, 18h for single-op. There are not enough EU stations to work, particularly in the sunspot minimum. 10m and 15m were very poor from VP9. 73, Ed, G3SQX VU2UR: ENJOYED THE CONTEST INSPITE OF REPEATED POWER FAILURES AT MY QTH.HOPE TO BE IN MORE WAEDC IN FUTURE.
VY2/KD4D: Thanks to Jamie, VY2JR, for climbing the tower on Thursday and pointing the 40 meter beam at Europe. What happened to 15 meters on Sunday? 5 QSO's...this is still my favorite contest.
W1CSM: Fun contest. How about QTC in both directions?
W1JQ: Didn't try very hard, and conditions were rough. But my logger (complete with QTC) worked.
W2UP: Much QRN all weekend from thunderstorms nearby. Sorry to those I couldn't copy on the low bands. Was great to work some of the guys I met at HST 2005 in Macedonia (Laci, Matt, Mladen, Iliya, and others hiding behind club calls). For an amusing cartoon about WAE, go to http://w2up.home.mindspring.com/wae_sunday.jpg
W3PT: Just a check log. Had lots of fun slowly getting back into CW contesting.
W3UA: My first WAE from outside EU. It was fun despite bad high band propagation (not a single QSO on 10 even with my new 7x7x7 stack, and 80 was much better than 15). I could not imagine sending QTC on 80 meters. I will definitely need receiving antennas for 80 -- lost a lot of EU because of "bad ears" -- sloper is OK for transmit, but very noisy. Many other things to do, so could not dedicate to the contest all the time it deserves -- but still made over 1000 QSO. Thanks!
W4MYA: Always enjoy WAE, just did not have much time for this one. Take care/Bob
W4TDB: MY TIME WAS LIMITED. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE IN TENNESSEE QSO PARTY SEPT 11, 2005
W6FA: Conditions were poor, but it was fun digging out the weak ones...
WA4RTE: Not a high score but I wanted the EU stations to get credit.
YB0DPO: Nice contest only got little problem with N1MM when sent QTC with the call LX/DL1EKC/P (more 10 digits),sorry to many stations asked QTC before I find out this problem (deleted the long call and make a note, manual type this call on log again after the contest).some stations asked QSY to 10m,but this time condition is poor,20m and 40m is better, 100w is dificult jump in the EU QRM,Thank's to all for the QSO's,hope cuagn on the RTTY part.
YI9VCQ: Started out on 20m with a decent pace given the conditions. Moved to 40m and made one QSO but did hear K1TTT who was very loud. Wow....winter conditions on the low bands! K1TTT was also heard weakly on 15m later in the day. Did manage a few new countries like Argentina and Liberia (non-credit). Most of my QTC's were sent to FB Russian operators. Russia and Germany are my bread and butter stations during most contests. Just like the USA, Asia started coming in strongly during the day. The second day was better for EU. I had a rough start sending QTC's with Writelog but caught on quickly. This contest is as much fun IMHO as Sweepstakes since there's an additional element of skill added. switching from the QTC send window to keyboard mode requires a little manual dexterity since I didn't use a key. Heck, I can copy faster than I can send now so a key makes me sound QLF. Conditions dried up on 20m at around XXXX UTC and I could hear USA at 55, so I worked all who called me. I even worked my QSL manager--N3ST. Too cool. My apologies to UL8N and compliments for him staying with me during "technical difficulties". I was trying to send QTC's but ended up having the QTC send window located on top of my CW keyboard window. So, I couldn't send manually for fills. I finally fixed the problem after a few false starts. It's amazing how Mr. Murphy gets you in the middle of a contest since this was not my first QTC sequence HI HI! Equipment: Icom 706MkIIG at 100w 20m Dipole Ten-Tec Tuner Rigblaster Pro Writelog 5.54E
YO2/DL1CW: Only a few minutes, gave up due to nice conditions
YO8BPY: TS-520 SE 100w Ant multi band, 2KY sloper HM, Vy 73!
YU1EQ: all the best
ZC4LI: Thanks to all concerned in running the contest. Any chance of changing the 12 hours off time rule to a minimum of 1 hour to be taken at any time. This would make the off times more flexible as the present rule is too rigid. NO Spotting aids were employed.
ZL4BR: Running a kite flying demo show for Scouts caused me to miss the first five hours, but I really don't thing I missed all that much. Openings between ZL and Europe in our winter are generally not as good as in summer, and as expected with the SFI at 75 they were going to as poor as they can possibly get. Kept checking 15m but only heard a very weak VP2E and the JA beacon. There was a long path 20m opening to East Coast North America/South America around 2100utc on the second day which wasn't any use at all! The sunrise 80m opening on Sunday was useful, pity it didn't happen again on Monday morning. So once again 40m was 'the' band for me, even though the new Chinese woodpecker OTHR was S9+ for some of the time.
ZL6QH: Poor condx on 20 m and up, but great 80 m short path. The QTCs keeps the contest interesting when all bands have been worked dry.
