European DX-Contest CW 2003

Contest Echo

4K0CW: Had big fun although condx were not really good.

4S7NI: Merely succeeded in adding 4S7 to contest log books

4X1VF: Nice to be again in the EU test. I was very limited in time this year but tried to give the mult. Shalom.

9A2EU: Only 10 hours in the contest, but had fun.

9A4RX: LOST SOME QTC'S DUE TO PC PROBLEMS... WHAT TO SAY.. DONT KNOW HOW TO BEG-TOO MUCH NIL, QRU, SRI NO, ETC.. AT LEAST, ENJOYED WORKING DX'S ...

9A7P: My first serious SO2R contest. Every year more and more begging for QTCs. Always fun! CU next year!

9H3TM: It's nice to be a multi, hi, big fun from Malta.

AE4EC: Between the extreme noise at my location and home jobs that needed doing i was not able to make many contacts.

CT1ILT: This year I participated in the contest instead of my father (CT1CJJ) give him a break, hi.

CX7BY: Trying to send the 1th QTC my computer locked !! Bad condx on Sunday, enjoy the Contest !!

DF1IAQ: Keine QTC empfangen.

DF3OL: Leider ging 10m fast gar nicht.

DH2URF: Ein Contest mit QTC-Verkehr - einmalig! Leider dieses Jahr ohne 28 MHz.

DJ2QV: peak temperature in shack was abt 38°C

DJ5MW: Congrats to all OPs who copied my weak signal produced by a 4m long piece of rainpipe.

DJ7ST: Angesichts der Hitzewelle über Europa erstaunlich wenig QRN und erfreuliche Schnappchen auf 80/40m auch mit <100W.

DK3JU: It was very interesting to work with low power 5 watts.

DK4CU: 3 W out!

DL0BO/P: Very hot contest with 40°C in the tent in the shadow of the pyramide, but WAE for ever and all time again.

DL0QS: No chance for stations in northern Germany: as in any years south-german-station had much better condx in this WAE.

DL1BUG: Schlechtes Timing in diesem Jahr ( Urlaubs-Rückreise)- aber ein wenig Contestluft wollte ich doch noch schnuppern-hi.

DL1EKC/P: First time WAE entry. Bad condx but fun wid qtcs. SU agn next year

DL1EL: More was not possible ! In front of the radio I had all the time more then 30° C. So I went with the kids to the swimmingpool and in the evenings in the garden. Next year I will be back with more time.

DL3DTH: Not my best contest: Lost some qtc's because of a hardwareproblem and had also a broken wire at my 80m antenna...

DL6MHW: My first contest operating EU side and DX side simutaneoulsy (W4/DL6MHW controlled via Internet).

DL7VRG: War nicht einfach mit 100W & GP !

DL8CX: My first time entry in this contest; QTCs are a lot of fun; see you for the SSB part.

DL8WX: It's even more fun when condx are down like this year!

DM3PKK: Ein anrpsuchsvoller Contest. Bin nächstes Jahr wieder dabei!

DP1POL: High geomagnetic activity (with an A index of 33 on Saturday) made most HF paths almost unusable in this part of Antarctica, so I could only use a brief 10 meter opening to give a multiplier to a few fellow contesters. CT1ILT even managed to copy ten of my QTCs before the band died. Looking forward to the contests in October and November when the sun brings back the good openings on the higher bands to this continent.

EA4DUT: Not too much time for my first WAEDC contest for I celebrated my birthday that weekend.

ES4MM: Here: 1day-storm, rain, wind. 2day-clear, but poor condx. Thanks for my favourite contest!

F/DL1RNN: Hat mit K1, 3 Watt und 2*10m Dipol ganz gut geklappt. TRX: Elecraft K1, 3 Watt Ausgangsleistung ANT: 2*10m Dipol, 3m über Grund, Als InvV, Enden nur 1m über Grund.

G3LHJ: Had fun for what time I could put to it Condx fair 15 & 20M best bands poor ants for LF bands.

GU7X: I tried to work more multipliers this year, and this was successful. It's a great contest, but the hours are long for single operators. Perhaps we need a 24 or 18-hour section for old timers and people with families! Thank you to DARC and the WAE team. 73.

H2G: Amplifier on 10m failed at start of test, guess it was the worst band anyway. Contest a lot of fun as usual. Another 4 mults on 10m would have put me in the record book!

HB9AYZ: Nur sporadisch mitgemacht. Lausige Bedingungen.

I3/4Z4KX: IT WAS FUN TO MAKE SOME QSOS FROM EUROPE WITH ANTENNA INSIDE THE ROOM.

IKØYVV: Great fun, better than expected cndx, too much SRIs, NILs, QRUs answers at QTCs requests. I had to take some unprogrammed rest time that caused me not to achieve the 1 mega point target, just 30hrs on. Congrats to the committee for the rules, see u sn!

IR2V: I committed myself for the TOP 10 Europe: I think my score is not enough. WAE is very unique, there are QTCs! But what a pain to get those QTC's! A lot of: sri, QRU, NO, Later, and whatever they can use to say no! But I was rewarded at last: nearly the end of the contest, while CQing on 20m, I was called by two W6, two W7 and KL7HF in a row! Isn't that qood? The KL7 said the usual QRU. Half an hour later (2353Z) KL7HF called in again and said: "I have 6 QTC's, QRV?" Oh boys, how do you call this? I am a little-pistol, a little more than nobody in the contest community!! Moreover, in the first hour of the contest, on 20M, I was called by: 9V1YC, VY2ZM, ZL6QH, H7A! Hey, is the world going the other way round?? Propagation was good enough, but I couldn't hear any NA or SA on 10. And where were the JAs??? 80M was good but noisy; 40M was quite good; 20M was very good and always open to somewhere; 15M was floating and signals were mostly low; 10M wasn't there for me :( ! Thanks to all who called me and to all who copied my signal! More thanks to whom sent me also their QTCs!! :). Cu next one. Bob, I2WIJ

IT9ORA: Boys don't delude you of my number of QSO's but I have had a good time, with the receipt of the various QTCs. I have been happy to have been useful in the multiplier towards those people that have asked me for QSY.

JA1BNW: Rig: FT-1000 200Watts Ant: TA-351

JA1BPA: It has been more than 15 years since I last participated in this contest. I conly came back on the air this year, and enjoyed the good old atmosphere of this contest.

JA1CP: Had an enjoyable time

JA2BQX: Tnx nice contest

JA3YBK: On the evening before the Contest, A strong typhoon attacked my area. But, all of antennas were all right. We could enjoy contesting.

JA9CWJ: WAEDC is my favorite contest.See you next year!

JO1RUR/2: I operated this contest from my car.

JO3AGQ: My first entry had a great time

JP1SRG: Condition was not so good. Only 7 hours operation but could enjoyed fairly.

KØVSV: Unassisted

K1GU: The QTC makes this contest a barrel of fun. I am sorry I did not have enough QTC to pass to all who asked.

K2NV/VE3: I put our boat on autopilot while my XYL was on watch and operated as we crossed Lake Ontario and entered US waters. When I retured home I Then operated from K2NV. A great contest for improving your CW skills!

K3DI: WAEDC/WAG RESULTS BOOKLET HERE 1 AUGUST. GREAT PUBLICATION!

K3MD: Portable operation with FT-100D, TH3JR at 50 feet. and military porta-tower. Moving in 3 months. All the best to all!

K3NK: I had no luck with 10m again this year. I really enjoy the QTC part of this contest.

K4IU: Great fun, thanks again to the contest committee

K4JA: Great contest. See you next year.

K4LTA: Thank you and I enjoyed your contest and TR log has made it possible for me to send QTCs.

K4SV: Short but sweet.

K4YKZ: My first WAE contest without any directional antenna and without an amplifier. Sometimes it took some patience on both ends of the QSOs, but worked everything I heard except the TA1 and 3A stations. Too bad Sunday's propogation was poor.

K5ZD: No packet! Better conditions than I expected. Happy to work Eu on 10m on Sunday.

K6CSL: ICOM-707 running 100 Watts through an MFJ-949E antenna tuner to a wire loop 8.2m wide and 3.7m high, mounted on TV standoffs on the back wall of my mobile home. I live in an antenna restricted mobile home park. Thank you for this opportunity to test this small station in your WAE contest. It was very interesting finding out what this very simple station can do.

K6III: Rig=Elecraft K2 running 5 watts Ant=F12c4 at 50ft No DX spotting network was used.

K8AJS: It wasn't until I sent my first QTC that I realized that my logging computer clock was two minutes slow. It made the first QTC look a little strange, but I reset the clock after that so the times were correct. Conditions were good, but I had a hard time sometimes pushing my 100w signal through the East Coast Curtain. I had a good time in this contest. Looking forward to next year.

K9ES: Very high noise levels on 160 and 80 made copy impossible. High rain static on 20 and 15 made things difficult. Only spent a few hours in the contest. Go Florida Contest Group !

K9QVB: Condx were very bad & the QRN was very high in the BLACK HOLE

KD4D: Thanks to John Evans, N3HBX, for the use of his fine station. I still don't understand the off-time strategy for this one. My first WAE CW from the US. Thanks to everyone who moved for me!

KSØM: Band conditions were crazy in the central USA. They would be open for a time and then go dead. I had to keep looking for an openband. My interface failed and I could not send/receive QTC's. I do not like this contest feature anyway and it may prevent me from entering the next one.

KT1V: Great contest and activity.Just managed to sqeeze in a few hours around family activities

LU1DZ: Congratulation, this is a great competition. It is a pleasure to QSO many europeans very good Morse operators receiving QTC traffic like with a recorder...

LU1EWL: I have operated in the contest only 8 hours. The remainder time I was in bed, sick with grippe.

LY2BO: Worked WAE from UK2BBB - UP1BWW - LY2WW club stations.

LY2IJ: Many thanks to station owner Petras, LY1PM, who built another competitive station - remember UK2BBB / UP1BWW / LY2WW. LY2TA: I was too busy and lost my favorite contest this year...

LY7A: We had a lot of problems using CT. Started with CT 9.89 and after some 4-5 hours noticed that QTC are not passed through network. We reverted to version 9.50 (only available version on site). This was working OK. Because of this we lost some 30-40 QTC. Also we had a lot of computer crashes because RF interferences. Changed motherboard on one PC that solved problem.

LZ1-H-192: In last moment I have problem with my RX on 7, 14 and 21 MHz. Sorry!

LZ1ZM: Really enjoyable contest. Simply the BEST, especially QTC traffic.

M5X: Great contest as usual, pity 10m was poor for us

MM/PAØINA/P: A few QSO's to be there. Hpe for a better effort next year!

N3RD: WAE CW is a great contest. Thanks, DARC, for sponsoring it.

N4AF: Heavy rain precip noise made Eu hard to hear on Sunday morning.

N4JED: eight inches of rain and lightning limited operating

N7EIE: Twenty meters was only open to Europe for 45 minutes. I'll try again next year.

N8II: Activity was not very good, conditions were above average. 15 M was open past any meaningful activity both days til past 21Z. The noise level on 40/80 M was lower than normal for summertime, but again activity was low. It was very easy to find and hold a clear CQ frequency anytime due to low activity.

N9RV: Thunderstorms hurt me on Saturday afternoon when 15 meters was good. This contest was an island of good condtions during a summer of very bad condx.

NU8Z: This was my first effort in the WAE contest. Due to other commitments, I was only able to put in about 10 hours. I did have a lot of fun and will be back next year. Mark NU8Z

OE9/G3TXF: Operated with simple low antennas from mountain-side guest-house in OE9. Good take-off to North-East but blocked everywhere else Congratulations to all who pulled through my weak signal and difficult call correctly, first time!

OK1WMV: Very nice contest.TNx for all. See you next year OK1WMV @ OL7R. OK2-9329: Very good Contest and perfect DX and EU operators, but many QTCs were very QRO that I could not catch it hi. See

OK2PBF: Erste Contest WAE - gefallen. Danke.

OK5SWL: Very good contest and many stations. Sorry we haven't more time. See you next year again friends.

OL0A: I slightly improved my score on the last year although sometimes it was a struggle with poor condx and only 80Watts from my city QTH. 95% of QSOs made in search&pounce. 40m was in good shape Sunday morning and 20m late night. Good contest, see you next year.

OM3DX: At home I have TVI and BCI problems up to 500 W. Due to I used 100 W only and tested my last year antennas setup. Big fun really (hi).

ON4XG: Need air-conditioning in shack!

ON5ZO: WAE CW is my favourite contest. CW QTCs are so much fun. Too bad I didn't get enough QTCs, although I nearly always beg for QTCs. CU AGN in 2004. 73 de ON5ZO

ONL383: Propagation was not bad at all but the ex is very hot!

P3F: Great fun but not without a few hitches! For some reason I couldn't get my second radio to key. So, no SO2R here. Then after a few hours operating a computer glitch of some kind lost me a bunch of already sent QTCs! I could find no way to recover them so I continued and the computer gave out the missing QTCs again. I guess there will be duplicate claims for about 50 QTCs out there. My sincere thanks to the organising committee for a really nice contest weekend. 73 Bob, 5B4AGN, P3F

P43JB: Terrible conditions, nice test.

PAØFAW: FT817, long wire indoor. Went for 1 or 2 contacts but 31 with 5 watts and indoor antenna! JA3YBK made the whole weekend!

PAØFEI: Bad condx on 21 and 28 MHz. Good activity on 7 and 14 MHz.

PAØLOU: Nach vielen Jahren mal wieder einige Stunden mitgemacht - aber 30°C im Shack und Besuch am Sonntag, also nicht versucht etwas zu gewinnen.

PA3ELD: Condx not good but had a lot of fun during the contest. We had a heat wave during the contest es result 33 degrees celsius in the shack... Cuagn next contest

PA4TU: This contest allowed me to test my QTH with a 2 element ZL-special, thanks!

PA5TT: Sorry, but to warm to join for long(er) time.

PG7V: First contest with my new callsign PG7V. This new prefix caused a lot of confusion to the DX stations!

PY2NY: Horrible Propagation...

RA6FV: P.O.BOX 105 Stavropol 355002 Russia

RU1A: Propagation on Saturday was enough good compares with auroras during previous last years, which killed propagation in our region. As a result - 1000 qso during first 24 hours. A nice condx on 80 meters allows us catch a lot of multipliers even with dipole and beverage. The propagation went down since 6z on Sunday and score grows very slowly that hours up to 22z then 20 meters wide opened on NA. The last 20 minutes contest many stations call us for recieving QTC's. The our new construction on 20 mtrs - 4x5 el yagi's H-frame spaced and fixed to USA seems did very well! This year main target was QTC traffic, correcting last year mistake, when we were 500 qtc behind DL2NBU.

RU3WR: ru3wr@mail.ru

RU4SS: I WAS VERY HAPPY TO JOIN THE CONTEST. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

RZ4AG: My 1st WAE contest when I ask for QTC. It's great fun.

S58A: SO2R but this time no PWR-AMP on second TRCV.

SM0BDS/6: Psed to give a few points in the contest.

SM4/DK7AN: I had great fun in holiday in Sweden with 3 watt output from DSW20 QRP transceiver and dipole in the forest.

SM6CNN: This is a fun contest contest! 80 and 40 were excellent with many good ears to pick up the signals from my low hanging dipoles.

SP3GTS: TS-930S, ANT:DELTA LOOP

SP9MDY: rig : ft707, g5rv generated for SPDX Contest by SP7DQR

SV1BJW: This was a special Weekend. I was invested many to improve all and achieve the best. Anyway some problem with my PC's clock stole from me a lot of time to fix it. After some vacation I had the oportunity to hobby and meet some old friends.

TI3M: Nice contest!

UA1CEC: Very nice contest! But I had many problems with my RX. Cuagn in 2004 WAEDC.

UA3AGW: Had very limited time for radio this year, cu other time for serious effort.

UA3MDX: Bei so schlechten condx wird ein Contest zum Selbstmisshandlungsmittel. Deswegen nur Check-Log.

UA4CIF: tnx good contest.

UA9CBO: Just took 3.5 hours before the end of the contest to meet friends.

UA9CDC: Beams from 40 and up and very quiet QTH made the trick. I hope I will be able to repeat it next year. It sure was the most interesting WAE for me so far. Great to have LP category.

UT1IWA: 73!

VK4TT: G'day to all other Operators in contest.

VK7GN: Not so easy with droopy dipoles instead of multiple beams I had as VK5GN!

VP9/IK2RZP: SORRY, SOME WIRES, NO CW FILTERS AND BAD CW OPERATOR! BUT I AM HAPPY TO HAVE GIVEN VP9 MULTIPLIER TO MORE THEN 100 STATIONS.

VY1JA: Interesting conditions... NPMIBY.. No Propagation In My Back Yard.

W0ETT: Could only get on for a few hours. Was nice to work many familiar stations.

W4DJ: QTCs make this contest fun! Wish more contests would have the critical traffic handling skill incorporated into their rules. This also takes the borddom out of just running stations!

W4SAA: Amp was down... so LP this year. Had no luck at running. FL QRN made the lowbands tough work, but managed a few Q's on 80m. Seemed like fewer mults were avaliable than last year. CU next year with more QTC's. Joe W4SAA

W5AC: I realized after a few QSOs that the computer clock was set to local time rather than GMT, and that's the time I sent in the first couple of QTCs. Sorry for the confusion. This was my first attempt/blunder.

W9ILY: ANOTHER GREAT CONTEST, ONE OF MY FAVORITES. QTC'S ARE REALLY FUN AND ADD INTEREST. THANKS TO THE ORGANIZERS FOR THE CONTEST AND THE FINE PRINTED RESULTS BOOK. I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING IT.

W9WI: Need to remember to set my computer's clock next time!

WA2VQV: This is my first try at the WAE contest and I had a great time in spite of poor conditions (I use indoor dipoles up in the attic). I really enjoyed sending QTCs!

XU7ACU: Nice to do the contest from the DX-side this year. 73s de M0GMT & DJ9AO.

YC3MM: Running QRP 2 watts.

YL2LY: Tnx to all DX Op's !

YO2CJX: I try with my QRP and working some stn. Nice to work DX with QRP.

YP3A: Target was Top 10, but it's very difficult to finish in top with no DX-cluster, no possibility to look up for the new mults or band activity. Local internet server crushed down just 3 hours before the contest started and no one could manage the problem in weekend; sri no condx for packet! TU all for QSOs&QTCs and specially to K9QVB for QTCs 86/1, 88/1 & 89/1, hi...

YU1EQ: Sorry I lost my waecw03.qtc file (writed on paper serial num./num.of qtc and qtcs but not callsign because after rcvd qtcs I overwrite in my laptop). I saved papers with 277 qtcs with serial but I DO NOT KNOW from who rcvd qtcs.hi,hi!! Laptop is deleted my waecw03.qtc file when i writelog, after that I emptyd recycled Bin!!

YU7LS: Vy much QRL. CU next year of EU SSB contest.

YZ1V: not too many dx stations participated in WAE03 and this year we couldn't use 80m. cu next year!

ZL6QH: Propagation to Eu 20 out of 24 hrs. Great 40 and 20m condx made up for lack of 15/10m. Impressed with skill of QTC takers.
